Communication
(May be higher)
This score may be a little inaccurate, since the agency I used only gave my contact details to OHP a week before I set off and so I did not get much experience in communication before the trip. This of course was not OHP’s fault! Before I set off I was given a very interesting guide to orangutans, OHP, and the kind of things we would experience on the trip.
All the people on the trip speak at least some English. The lovely cook I believe speaks the least and the Indonesian guides vary in their English vocabulary - some are good English speakers. All the supervisors speak fluent English and so you should not have problems communicating.
If you have a mobile that works in Indonesia, it will tend to work in the hut, although not all the time. It won’t work at all in the rainforest. When I contacted OHP’s mobile before the pick-up I did get through to someone.
To go on the internet you need to travel to Bukit Lawang and pay - this goes for the OHP supervisors too, so if you are trying to contact them to ask them something, please be patient because not all of them have internet access every day of the week.
